The 853-005 is a 1/2-inch nominal Schedule 80 PVC blind flange designed to terminate or blank off the end of a flanged piping run. Unlike standard flanges which connect two sections of pipe, a blind flange features a solid, unbored face — there is no through-bore or pipe connection. The fitting bolts directly to a mating flange face using the standard ANSI/ASME B16.5 Class 150 4-bolt pattern, sealing the end of the line completely when used with an appropriate full-face gasket.

Blind flanges serve several critical functions in piping systems: permanently closing off unused branch connections, isolating sections of pipe for maintenance or system modification, providing future access points that can be unbolted and opened without cutting pipe, and pressure-testing flanged assemblies by sealing one end of the test section. At 1/2-inch nominal, the 853-005 is particularly well-suited for instrumentation takeoffs, chemical sampling ports, test connections, and small-bore branch terminations on chemical process and water treatment systems.

Gray Schedule 80 PVC construction provides the chemical resistance and pressure capability required for industrial service, with no corrosion risk in wet or chemically aggressive environments. The solid flange face is manufactured from virgin PVC compound conforming to ASTM D1784 Cell Classification 12454, and bolt hole drilling conforms to ANSI/ASME B16.5 Class 150 dimensional standards for compatibility with standard mating flanges across manufacturers.

Specifications:

Attribute Detail
Part Number 853-005
Material PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
Color Gray
Schedule Schedule 80
Flange Type Blind (Solid Face, No Bore)
Nominal Pipe Size 1/2 inch
Pipe End Connection None — Bolted Face Connection Only
Drilling Pattern ANSI/ASME B16.5 Class 150
Number of Bolt Holes 4
Material Standard ASTM D1784, Cell Class 12454
Assembled Joint Rating Per gasket selection, bolt torque, and mating flange specification
Compatible Mating Flanges ANSI 150 lb PVC, CPVC, metal, or composite flanges — 1/2" drilling pattern

Assembled flange joint ratings depend on gasket material and compression, bolt torque, mating flange material, and fluid service conditions. Consult system design specifications for pressure and temperature derating. Not recommended for sustained pressure service without full-face gasket and proper bolting per applicable piping code.

Industries & Applications:

The 853-005 blind flange is used across industries wherever flanged PVC piping runs require termination, isolation, or future access provisions in corrosion-resistant systems:

  • Chemical Processing & Water Treatment — Blanking off unused branch connections on chemical distribution headers, isolating dead-leg sections during system modifications, and sealing instrumentation ports during process changeovers
  • Industrial Process Piping — Terminating flanged pipe ends on chemical feed and reagent systems during commissioning, maintenance isolation, or permanent line decommissioning without cutting pipe
  • Pressure Testing & System Commissioning — Sealing one or both ends of flanged pipe assemblies to conduct hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure tests before full system startup
  • Municipal Water & Wastewater Treatment — Blanking off flanged branch connections on treatment plant headers and pump skids during phased construction or equipment changeouts
  • Semiconductor & Electronics Manufacturing — Terminating unused ports on ultra-pure water (UPW) and chemical distribution manifolds where cleanliness and chemical inertness are critical
  • Laboratories & Research Facilities — Sealing sample ports, instrument connections, and test taps on reagent and utility water lines between use cycles
  • Agricultural & Irrigation Systems — Closing off flanged branch connections on pump and filtration manifolds during seasonal shutdowns or system expansion staging
