1/2" Flange (Loose Ring), Slip PVC Schedule 80 (854-005)

The 854-005 is a Schedule 80 PVC loose ring flange with a 1/2-inch slip (socket) connection and a free-rotating bolt ring. The socket end accepts the outside diameter of standard 1/2" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe, secured with solvent cement to create a permanent, pressure-rated flanged termination. The bolt ring rotates independently around the flange stub, allowing bolt holes to be aligned precisely with any mating flange, valve body, pump port, or flanged equipment connection without twisting or repositioning the cemented pipe — a practical advantage that is especially valuable at 1/2", where piping runs are frequently routed through congested mechanical spaces and instrument racks where rotating a cemented line after installation is rarely feasible.

The 854-005 completes the 1/2" size tier of the Schedule 80 PVC flange family alongside the 851-005 (solid style/slip) and 856-005 (loose ring/spigot), and its position within that trio is specific: it shares the rotating ring alignment advantage of the 856-005 but uses a slip socket connection rather than a spigot end — the socket accepts pipe directly into it, while the 856-005 spigot end cements into an external socket fitting. Compared to the 851-005, the 854-005 trades the solid style's compact one-piece rigidity for the loose ring's post-cement bolt alignment flexibility — the correct choice when the pipeline layout or equipment bolt pattern cannot be fully confirmed before the socket joint is made. For installations where bolt hole alignment can be established during initial layout and a lower-profile one-piece assembly is preferred, the 851-005 is the appropriate alternative.

As with all PVC flat-face flanges, assemble with a full-face rubber gasket and stainless steel or non-metallic bolts, and torque in a cross pattern to the manufacturer's recommended specification. Never mate a raised-face steel flange directly against a PVC flat face — uneven clamping load is a leading cause of PVC flange face cracking in the field. Apply a medium-bodied PVC primer and standard-bodied PVC cement per ASTM D2564 to both the pipe OD and socket interior before installation.
