1/2" Flange (Loose Ring), Spigot PVC Schedule 80 (856-005)

The 856-005 is a Schedule 80 PVC loose ring flange with a 1/2-inch spigot (plain end) for solvent cement installation into any standard 1/2" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC socket. Like all 856-series flanges, the fitting consists of two components: a PVC flange stub with a formed face and a free-rotating PVC bolt ring. The bolt ring rotates independently around the flange stub, allowing bolt holes to be aligned precisely with any mating flange, valve body, pump port, or equipment connection without twisting or repositioning the pipe — a practical installation advantage that becomes especially significant in tight equipment spaces and confined mechanical rooms where small-bore piping frequently terminates at flanged instrumentation, metering equipment, or chemical dosing devices.

At 1/2", this is the smallest standard size in the 856 series and is most commonly encountered at flanged instrument connections, chemical injection ports, sample valve flanges, and small-bore equipment tie-ins where the loose ring alignment flexibility is as operationally valuable as it is at larger sizes — perhaps more so, given that 1/2" piping runs are often routed through congested spaces with limited room to rotate the pipe after cementing. The 856-005 mates to any standard 150 lb ANSI flat-face flanged connection and is typically assembled with a full-face rubber gasket and stainless steel or non-metallic bolts.

As with all PVC flat-face flanges, use a full-face gasket and torque bolts in a cross pattern to the manufacturer's recommended specification — never mate a raised-face steel flange directly against a PVC flat face, as the uneven clamping load can crack the PVC flange face. Apply a medium-bodied PVC primer and standard-bodied PVC cement per ASTM D2564 to the spigot end before installation into the receiving socket.
