1/2" Flange (Solid Style), Slip PVC Schedule 80 (851-005)

The 851-005 is a Schedule 80 PVC solid style flange with a 1/2-inch slip (socket) connection. The bolt ring is fixed and integral to the flange body — a one-piece construction that distinguishes the 851 series from the loose ring designs of the 854 and 856 series, where the bolt ring rotates freely around a separate flange stub. The socket end solvent cements directly onto the outside diameter of standard 1/2" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe, creating a compact, permanent, pressure-rated flanged termination that mates to any standard 150 lb ANSI flat-face flanged valve, pump port, instrument connection, or mating PVC flange.

At 1/2", the solid style design's compact one-piece profile is particularly well suited to the confined spaces and tight equipment layouts where small-bore flanged connections most often appear — instrument tie-ins, chemical dosing ports, sample valve connections, and small-bore equipment flanges where a low-profile, rigid flanged termination is preferable to a two-piece loose ring assembly. Because the bolt ring is fixed, bolt hole alignment must be established during initial installation layout before the pipe is cemented — the flange body cannot be rotated to adjust bolt pattern after the socket joint is made. For installations where post-cement bolt hole alignment flexibility is needed, the 854-005 (loose ring/slip) is the appropriate alternative at the same size and connection type.

As with all PVC flat-face flanges, assemble with a full-face rubber gasket and stainless steel or non-metallic bolts, and torque in a cross pattern to the manufacturer's recommended specification. Never mate a raised-face steel flange directly against a PVC flat face — uneven clamping load from a raised face is a leading cause of PVC flange face cracking in the field. Apply a medium-bodied PVC primer and standard-bodied PVC cement per ASTM D2564 to both the pipe OD and socket interior before installation.
