The solid flange style is a one-piece construction: the flange body and the pipe connection hub are permanently integrated, with no rotating ring or separate backing flange component. This distinguishes it from the van stone (lap joint) flange style, where a loose ring flange backs a separately formed flange face. The solid style is simpler, more compact, and well-suited for permanent installations where the flange orientation does not need to be adjusted independently of the pipe connection — the bolt holes are fixed relative to the hub, so rotational alignment must be confirmed before the threaded connection is fully tightened.

Thread sealing at the FPT connection follows standard practice: apply PTFE thread tape or a compatible PVC-rated thread sealant to the male threads of the mating nipple or fitting before assembly. Avoid petroleum-based pipe dopes, which can degrade PVC over time.

Schedule 80's thicker wall construction delivers higher pressure ratings and stronger resistance to mechanical stress and chemical exposure than Schedule 40, making this flange appropriate for demanding industrial, chemical, and process piping environments.
