3" Cap, FPT PVC Schedule 80 (848-030)

The 848-030 is a 3" Schedule 80 PVC Cap with a Female Pipe Thread (FPT) connection. Caps are line-termination fittings — they close off the end of a pipe run, stub-out, or open port, stopping flow and maintaining system pressure at that point. The FPT version threads directly onto any male-threaded (MPT) pipe end or fitting, making it a tool-free, solvent-free termination option that can be removed and reapplied without disturbing the surrounding piping — a meaningful advantage over solvent-cemented slip caps in systems where the termination point may need to be reopened for future expansion, seasonal service, or system modification.

At 3", this cap is sized for mid-to-large diameter commercial and industrial pipe runs — distribution headers, pump station branch lines, irrigation mains, and process piping stubs — where a threaded termination provides a more serviceable end point than a permanent cemented cap. Thread sealant tape (PTFE) or pipe dope rated for PVC service should be applied to the male threads before installation to ensure a leak-free seal at the joint.

Manufactured to Schedule 80 wall thickness standards, the 848-030 is rated for higher working pressures than Schedule 40 caps of equivalent size. The dark gray rigid PVC compound resists a wide range of acids, bases, and industrial chemicals, making it a dependable long-term termination fitting in corrosive service environments where metal caps would degrade, stain process fluids, or require replacement.

⚠️ Note: Apply PTFE thread tape or PVC-compatible pipe dope to male threads before installation. Do not over-tighten — PVC threads are susceptible to cracking under excessive torque, particularly at larger diameters. Hand-tight plus 1–2 turns with a strap wrench is typically sufficient.
