This 1" x 1" x 1-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Bullhead Tee (Slip x Slip x Slip) provides a three-way solvent-cement junction in which the perpendicular branch outlet is intentionally larger than both inline run ends — the defining characteristic of a bullhead tee and the inverse of a standard reducing tee configuration. Constructed in white Schedule 40 PVC, it is engineered for applications where flow is being collected from two smaller 1" lines into a single larger 1-1/2" outlet, or where a 1-1/2" supply must feed two smaller 1" downstream run legs from a common body.

The two 1" slip socket run ends form the inline portion of the tee and accept 1" PVC pipe for permanent solvent-cement bonds, while the 1-1/2" slip socket branch outlet accepts 1-1/2" PVC pipe for a permanent solvent-cement bond perpendicular to the run. This configuration is most commonly encountered in collection manifolds where two 1" distribution or return lines converge into a single 1-1/2" header for pump suction, filter inlet, or central return service — a layout that requires the enlarged branch to accommodate the combined flow volume from both run legs without the velocity increase and pressure drop that a same-size or reducing branch would produce at the collection point. Where a standard reducing tee steps the branch down from the run diameter, the bullhead tee steps it up — making it a purpose-specific fitting that is not interchangeable with standard or reducing tee configurations and should be selected explicitly when the hydraulic design calls for a larger branch outlet at the three-way junction.

Rated to 330 psi at 73°F (governed by the 1-1/2" branch end), this tee is suited for standard commercial and light industrial pressure service. Its PVC composition provides excellent resistance to corrosion, scale, chlorinated water, and a broad range of chemical exposures, making it a reliable long-term alternative to metal fittings in moisture-prone or chemically active environments. NSF/ANSI 61 listing confirms suitability for potable water contact.

Apply solvent cement to both the pipe end and fitting socket per ASTM D2564 procedures at each port, using a primer appropriate for the pipe and fitting schedule. Insert pipe fully into each socket and maintain a quarter-turn during assembly for even cement distribution across the joint surface. Allow adequate cure time before pressurizing the system, and derate pressure ratings for elevated temperatures per published derating curves.

Industries & Applications:

  • Irrigation & Water Distribution — Collects flow from two 1" lateral supply or return lines into a 1-1/2" mainline outlet at pump suction headers, filter inlet manifolds, and central return assemblies in agricultural and municipal irrigation systems where consolidating two smaller flows into a single larger outlet maintains adequate velocity and minimizes pressure loss at the collection point
  • Water Treatment & Aquaculture — Used in recirculating system collection headers, filter feed manifolds, and tank return assemblies where two 1" return or supply lines must consolidate into a 1-1/2" common outlet — a configuration frequently required at pump suction manifolds and biological filter return headers in aquaculture and water treatment installations
  • Commercial Plumbing — Consolidates flow from two 1" branch lines into a 1-1/2" collection main at central return manifolds, drain collection assemblies, and distribution headers in commercial building water systems where combined flow from multiple smaller branches requires a larger outlet to maintain adequate velocity and pressure balance
  • Industrial Process Piping — Serves as a hydraulically sized collection junction at pump suction headers, process water return manifolds, and chemical distribution collection points in water treatment, chemical processing, and manufacturing facilities where the bullhead configuration accommodates combined flow volume from two 1" process lines into a 1-1/2" common outlet
  • Chemical Handling — Provides a corrosion-resistant, enlarged-branch collection junction in systems conveying acids, caustics, fertilizer solutions, and other fluids incompatible with metal fittings, particularly at chemical distribution return headers and dosing system collection manifolds where two 1" lines must consolidate into a 1-1/2" outlet
  • HVAC & Mechanical Systems — Consolidates flow from two 1" branch lines into a 1-1/2" main on cooling tower distribution headers, chilled water return loops, and chemically treated water systems where the bullhead configuration accommodates combined return flow at collection manifold junctions within the Schedule 40 pressure class
