This 2-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Slip Coupling (Slip x Slip) provides a direct inline connection between two 2-1/2" PVC pipe ends via permanent solvent-cement bonds in commercial and light industrial PVC piping systems. Constructed in white Schedule 40 PVC, it offers the corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility required across a wide range of fluid handling applications where two same-diameter large-bore pipe ends must be joined inline to extend a run, complete a joint after a field cut, or bridge two cemented system sections at an inline junction without introducing threaded interfaces or additional transition hardware.

Both slip socket ends are sized to accept 2-1/2" PVC pipe for permanent solvent-cement bonds, joining two pipe ends inline in a single compact fitting body. The Slip x Slip full-size coupling is the standard solvent-cement approach to inline pipe joining and should not be confused with the reducer coupling variants in the 429 series (such as 429-251, 2" x 1-1/2"), which transition between two different pipe diameters rather than joining two same-size pipe ends. At 2-1/2", this coupling is most commonly specified in higher-flow irrigation mainlines, large-diameter commercial plumbing distribution runs, pump station assemblies, and process water headers where this less common nominal size is used for specific flow or velocity design requirements. Its application in an all-socket Schedule 40 assembly maintains the all-cemented system integrity that threaded couplings cannot provide at large diameters.

Rated to approximately 160 psi at 73°F, this coupling is suited for standard commercial and light industrial water distribution and irrigation service within its pressure class. Its PVC composition provides excellent resistance to corrosion, scale, chlorinated water, and a broad range of chemical exposures, making it a reliable long-term alternative to metal couplings in moisture-prone or chemically active environments. NSF/ANSI 61 listing confirms suitability for potable water contact, including use in drinking water distribution and treatment systems.

Apply solvent cement to both the pipe end exterior and the fitting socket interior on each side per ASTM D2564 procedures, using a primer appropriate for the pipe and fitting schedule. Insert pipe fully into each socket and maintain a quarter-turn during assembly for even cement distribution across the joint surface. If joining two fixed pipe ends where future disassembly may be required, consider whether a union fitting is a more appropriate solution — a fully cemented coupling joint is not removable without cutting. Allow adequate cure time before pressurizing the system, and derate pressure ratings for elevated temperatures per published derating curves.

Industries & Applications:

  • Irrigation & Water Distribution — Joins two 2-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe ends inline to extend mainline distribution runs, complete field cuts, and bridge pipe sections at inline junction points in agricultural and municipal irrigation systems where 2-1/2" pipe is specified for specific flow or velocity design requirements along the primary distribution header
  • Commercial Plumbing — Extends or repairs 2-1/2" PVC pipe runs at inline joint locations in commercial building water distribution systems, connecting pipe sections end-to-end or bridging cemented system segments in large-diameter supply mains and riser assemblies where all-socket construction is specified or preferred throughout
  • Industrial Process Piping — Joins two 2-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe ends inline to extend process water distribution headers, cooling water mains, and equipment feed lines in water treatment, chemical processing, and manufacturing facilities where all-socket Schedule 40 PVC construction is specified at this intermediate large-diameter pipe size
  • Pump Station Assemblies — Connects 2-1/2" PVC pipe sections inline at pump discharge headers, bypass line runs, and distribution main extensions in pump station installations where the large-diameter socket assembly must be extended or repaired without introducing threaded interfaces or additional transition fittings at the joint location
  • Water Treatment & Aquaculture — Used to join 2-1/2" pipe sections inline on recirculating system distribution mains, filter feed headers, and tank supply lines where NSF/ANSI 61 compliance and all-cemented Schedule 40 PVC construction are required at inline pipe joint locations throughout the system
  • HVAC & Mechanical Systems — Joins 2-1/2" PVC pipe ends inline on cooling tower supply mains, chilled water distribution headers, and chemically treated water system pipe runs at inline joint locations within the Schedule 40 pressure rating class where all-socket construction is preferred throughout the assembly
