The slip x FPT configuration — sometimes referred to as a street elbow in the threaded fitting world — is what distinguishes the 407-030 from the all-slip 406-030. Where the all-slip elbow creates a permanent solvent-weld joint on both ends, this fitting leaves the outlet end threaded and accessible. That threaded outlet is the practical advantage: any fitting, valve, or component connected at the FPT end can be removed and replaced without cutting into the pipe on either side of the elbow. At 3", this serviceability consideration carries real weight — the larger the pipe diameter, the more disruptive it is to cut into a solvent-weld system to access a downstream component, and designing in a threaded outlet at the directional change eliminates that problem from the outset.
