The 4" x 4" x 6" PVC Schedule 40 Bullhead Tee (Slip x Slip x Slip) is a specialty fitting designed for piping systems where the branch connection is intentionally larger than the two run connections. With 4-inch slip sockets on both run ends and a 6-inch slip socket on the branch, this fitting handles the convergence of two 4-inch lines into a single 6-inch outlet — or the reverse distribution from a 6-inch header into two 4-inch downstream runs.

The bullhead tee configuration stands apart from a standard reducing tee precisely because the branch is larger than the run. This geometry is well-suited for collection and manifold applications where managing combined flow volume and limiting velocity increase at the convergence point are the primary design objectives. In a conventional reducing tee, a smaller branch would create a velocity spike as flow exits; the oversized 6-inch branch of this fitting provides the additional cross-sectional area needed to accommodate combined flow more smoothly.

All three connections are slip-socket, intended for permanent installation with PVC solvent cement. The solvent-weld joint produces a bond that meets or exceeds the strength of the pipe wall itself, making this fitting appropriate for buried, exposed, and mechanical room installations alike. Manufactured to ASTM D2466 standards and fully compatible with Schedule 40 PVC pipe in both 4-inch and 6-inch sizes.

Industries & Applications:

  • Pump Suction & Discharge Headers — Combines two 4" suction or discharge lines into a single 6" main, reducing velocity and turbulence at the header transition point
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Mainlines — Used at submain convergence points on large-acreage systems where two 4" laterals consolidate into a 6" distribution main
  • Municipal Water & Wastewater — Incorporated in collection mains, pump station headers, and treatment plant piping where dual smaller lines feed a common larger outlet
  • Industrial Process Piping — Well-suited for manifold assemblies in chemical handling, water treatment, and processing systems requiring a controlled transition from two inlet streams to a single larger pipe
  • Stormwater & Site Utilities — Used in civil and site utility applications where two drainage runs combine into a larger collection main
  • Commercial Plumbing & Mechanical — Specified in mechanical room manifolds and large-building systems where consolidating dual 4" lines into a 6" main improves flow management and system layout
