The 839-292 is a 2-1/2" x 2" PVC Schedule 80 flush bushing in an MPT x FPT (Male Pipe Thread x Female Pipe Thread) configuration, providing a compact threaded reduction from a 2-1/2" male thread down to a 2" female thread. The MPT end threads directly into any matching 2-1/2" FPT fitting or threaded port, while the FPT end accepts a 2" MPT nipple, valve, or fitting — making this a straightforward, no-solder solution for threaded size transitions in Schedule 80 systems.

The flush bushing profile keeps the overall footprint minimal, sitting flush within the receiving socket rather than protruding like a hex bushing. This makes the 839-292 a preferred choice in tight installations where a hex body would create clearance issues or an unclean inline appearance.

Schedule 80 PVC's thicker wall construction gives this bushing the pressure ratings and mechanical strength required for demanding industrial environments. The gray color is standard for Schedule 80 and makes it easy to identify in systems where Schedule 40 (white) components are also present.

Thread sealing should follow standard practice for PVC threaded fittings: apply PTFE thread tape or an appropriate PVC-compatible thread sealant to the male threads before assembly. Do not use petroleum-based pipe dopes, which can degrade PVC over time. Thread by hand first, then snug with a strap wrench — avoid over-tightening, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque.

Industries & Applications:

The 839-292 threaded flush bushing is used wherever Schedule 80 PVC systems require a compact, threaded size reduction without solvent cement:

  • Industrial Processing — Threaded size transitions at pump ports, valve inlets, and manifold connections in chemical or fluid processing plants
  • Chemical Handling — Reducing threaded connections in acid, alkali, and chemical feed lines where corrosion resistance is required and disassembly may be needed over time
  • Water & Wastewater Treatment — Adapting mismatched thread sizes at treatment equipment, instrumentation ports, and distribution headers
  • Irrigation & Agriculture — Connecting mainline threaded fittings to smaller lateral supply lines in field and greenhouse irrigation systems
  • Commercial & Industrial Plumbing — Threaded reductions in mechanical rooms, equipment connections, and cold water supply systems requiring pressure-rated PVC
  • Aquaculture & Aquatics — Integrating size changes at filter housings, pump inlets, and recirculating system plumbing where tool-free disassembly is an advantage
