The 839-247 is a PVC Schedule 80 flush bushing that reduces a 2" female-threaded port or fitting down to a 1/2" male-threaded connection using an all-threaded MPT × FPT configuration. The 2" male NPT threads on the large end engage an existing 2" FPT fitting, valve body, tank outlet, or threaded port, while the 1/2" female NPT threads on the small end accept any standard 1/2" male-threaded fitting, nipple, or valve.

At 2" × 1/2", the 839-247 spans three full pipe sizes in a single threaded component — a more aggressive reduction than any other fitting in the immediate 839 series lineup. This makes it a particularly compact solution for applications where a large-body fitting, tank connection, or valve port needs to feed a small-bore service line, instrument port, sample tap, or chemical injection point without staging the reduction across multiple nipples and bushings.

The flush style distinguishes this fitting from the 838 hex bushing series. Where the 838 carries a raised hexagonal shoulder at the large end for wrench engagement, the 839's large end is fully threaded from face to face with no hex flats. This allows the bushing to thread completely into a fitting socket and sit flush or recessed below the socket face — a low-clearance profile that is essential in congested piping assemblies, panel-mounted equipment, threaded manifolds, or any installation where the protruding hex shoulder of a standard bushing would foul adjacent components.

The tradeoff for the flush profile is installation method. Without hex flats, a standard open-end or adjustable wrench cannot be used. A strap wrench or chain wrench is required to develop adequate torque without bearing directly on the PVC body. PTFE thread tape or an approved pipe thread sealant should be applied to all male threads before assembly. Engagement should proceed hand-tight, followed by one to two additional turns with a strap wrench to achieve a leak-free seal. Threaded PVC fittings do not tolerate the torque levels of metal pipe — over-tightening is a primary cause of cracking at the thread engagement zone, and metal pipe wrenches applied directly to the fitting body should always be avoided.

Manufactured from rigid PVC Type I, Grade I (Cell Classification 12454) to ASTM D2464, the 839-247 offers broad corrosion resistance to acids, bases, salts, oxidizing agents, and many industrial process fluids. NSF/ANSI 61 certification confirms suitability for potable water contact. The 1/2" FPT small end governs the pressure rating for the assembled fitting. Notably, 1/2" Schedule 80 threaded PVC carries a higher pressure rating than 3/4", meaning the governing end on the 839-247 is rated higher than on the adjacent 839-248 (2" × 3/4") despite being the smaller of the two fittings.

Industries & Applications:

  • Industrial & Chemical Processing — Reducing 2" valve ports, tank outlets, and manifold connections to 1/2" instrument taps, chemical injection points, or sampling lines; the three-size reduction in a single fitting minimizes component count and potential leak points in corrosive service environments
  • Chemical Metering & Dosing Systems — Compact step-down from 2" pump or storage tank ports to 1/2" injection or distribution lines on panel-mounted and skid-assembled dosing equipment where the flush profile prevents clearance issues in dense assemblies
  • Water Treatment & Purification — NSF 61 listing supports potable water applications; flush bushings appear at filter housing ports, treatment vessel outlets, and metered tie-in points where a recessed low-profile threaded reduction is preferred
  • Pump & Valve Bodies — Reducing 2" NPT ports on pump housings, pressure vessels, or large valve bodies to 1/2" service or instrument connections without additional nipples or intermediate fittings extending the assembly footprint
  • Laboratory & Analytical Systems — Reducing process supply lines to 1/2" analytical instrument connections, sample ports, or precision metering tie-ins in controlled process environments
  • OEM & Skid-Mounted Equipment Fabrication — Preferred in factory-assembled equipment where a clean, fully recessed threaded reduction is required and hex shoulder clearance from adjacent components cannot be confirmed at the point of installation
