The 838-247 is a Schedule 80 PVC flush style bushing with a 2-inch spigot (plain end) inlet and a 1/2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) outlet. The spigot end solvent cements directly into any standard 2" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC socket fitting, while the FPT bore accepts a 1/2" male-threaded fitting, valve, instrument, plug, or adapter downstream. As a flush style bushing, the fitting body sits fully recessed within the receiving socket without protruding hex flats or an exposed shoulder — producing a clean, low-profile assembly at the transition point that is especially well suited to congested equipment assemblies, manifold headers, and panel-mounted systems where clearance around the fitting is constrained.

At 2" x 1/2", the 838-247 represents the most aggressive standard reduction in the 2" inlet sub-series of the 838 matrix — a more pronounced step-down than the 838-248 (2" x 3/4") cataloged previously. The 1/2" FPT outlet is sized for minimal-bore applications: pressure gauge taps, chemical injection ports, air relief connections, instrument sensor feeds, and drain plugs where a 2" socket must transition to the smallest practical threaded interface without introducing a separate downstream reducer. The flush style body keeps this entire transition recessed within the 2" socket face, maintaining the low-profile assembly geometry that distinguishes the 838 series from hex bushing alternatives at the same size and schedule.

The flush style installation approach differs from hex bushing assembly — the smooth body without wrench flats is seated by hand or with strap tooling rather than an open-end wrench, and the solvent cement joint on the spigot end provides the primary, permanent pressure-rated connection at the inlet. Apply a medium-bodied PVC primer and standard-bodied PVC cement per ASTM D2564 to the 2" spigot end and the receiving socket interior before installation. Apply PTFE thread tape or an approved pipe thread sealant to any male-threaded fitting before engaging the 1/2" FPT outlet. Do not overtighten the threaded connection, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque.

Manufactured from heavy-wall Schedule 80 PVC, the 838-247 delivers greater wall thickness and mechanical strength than Schedule 40 equivalents, making it appropriate for industrial, chemical, and elevated-pressure service environments.
