The 437-416 is a Schedule 40 PVC reducing bushing with a 4-inch spigot (plain end) and a 3/4-inch socket (slip) outlet. The spigot end solvent cements directly into any standard 4" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC socket fitting, while the socket outlet accepts the outside diameter of standard 3/4" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe via solvent cement — creating a fully cemented, permanent large-to-small reduction entirely within a solvent-welded system. This all-solvent configuration is the correct choice when the downstream 3/4" connection must remain a cemented joint rather than transitioning to a threaded interface, keeping the full system bonded, flush, and free of threaded joints that could require periodic re-sealing.

The 4" to 3/4" size differential makes the 437-416 one of the more aggressive reductions in the Schedule 40 bushing matrix, and it is well suited to installations where a large-diameter pipeline must feed a small-bore solvent-cemented branch, instrument line, drain tap, or secondary circuit without introducing a threaded fitting at the transition point. Where a threaded outlet is needed instead, the 438-416 (Spigot x FPT, 4" x 3/4") is the appropriate alternative.

For the 4" spigot end, use an IPS-grade, heavy-bodied solvent cement and a medium-bodied PVC primer per ASTM D2564 — for 4" and larger joints, a two-coat application is recommended to ensure full socket penetration and a reliable, leak-free bond. The 3/4" socket outlet follows standard primer-and-cement procedure for small-diameter PVC joints.

Industries & Applications:

  • Municipal & Commercial Plumbing — Reduces a 4" cemented main line socket to a 3/4" solvent-cemented branch or service connection in commercial plumbing systems where an all-cemented transition is preferred over a threaded outlet.
  • Water Treatment & Distribution — Provides a fully bonded small-bore branch tap or instrument line connection on large-diameter PVC distribution and treatment system pipelines without introducing threaded joints into the system.
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Systems — Used at pump discharge headers, filter assemblies, and mainline manifolds where a 4" cemented inlet must reduce to a 3/4" cemented outlet for drip laterals, zone supply lines, or flow control devices.
  • Industrial Process Piping — Adapts large-diameter PVC process lines to 3/4" cemented branch connections for secondary circuits, bypass lines, or small-bore chemical feed piping in fully solvent-welded corrosion-resistant systems.
  • Pool & Spa Plumbing — Transitions 4" suction or return headers to 3/4" cemented branch connections for auxiliary circuits, air relief lines, or secondary equipment feeds in high-flow circulation systems.
  • HVAC & Chilled Water Systems — Connects 4" PVC drainage or secondary piping to 3/4" cemented drain, vent, or condensate branch lines on mechanical equipment where an all-solvent system is specified.
