The Charlotte Pipe 447-040 is a 4-inch PVC Schedule 40 slip cap designed to permanently close off the end of a pipe run using a solvent-cemented socket connection. As one of the most straightforward fittings in any PVC system, a slip cap serves a critical function wherever a pipe terminal requires a pressure-tight, maintenance-free seal — whether capping an unused branch during phased construction, terminating a dead-end line, or closing off a test port after pressure testing.

Manufactured to ASTM D2466 and produced in standard white PVC compound, the 447-040 is fully compatible with Schedule 40 PVC pipe and fittings across all major manufacturers. It is NSF/ANSI 61 listed, qualifying it for use in potable water distribution systems and water treatment infrastructure where material certification is required by code.

At 4 inches, this cap falls within large-diameter solvent cement application guidelines. Installers should use a heavy-bodied Schedule 40 PVC cement formulated for 3-inch and larger fittings, and allow adequate cure time before pressurizing the system. Due to the larger socket surface area and faster cement set time relative to the insertion window, two-person assembly is strongly recommended at this size — one to apply primer and cement, one to insert and hold the pipe in place through the initial set period. Follow manufacturer joint preparation guidelines including proper priming, full cement coverage of both mating surfaces, and a quarter-turn twist at insertion to ensure even cement distribution.

For temporary end caps or test plugs intended for removal, a threaded plug with a Schedule 40 FPT adapter is the preferred alternative. The 447-040 is a permanent termination fitting and should be treated accordingly at the design stage.
