The 847-025 is a 2-1/2" Schedule 80 PVC Cap with a Slip socket connection. This fitting permanently closes off the end of a 2-1/2" PVC pipe run — terminating flow, sealing the line, and maintaining system pressure at that point. The slip socket accepts standard 2-1/2" Schedule 80 PVC pipe for solvent cementing, forming a permanent, pressure-rated bond that is fully integrated into the pipe system once cured. There are no threads, no gaskets, and no mechanical fasteners — the cemented joint is the termination.

The slip cap is the permanent termination solution for PVC pressure systems. Where the threaded FPT cap (848-025) allows the termination point to be removed and reopened without cutting pipe, the slip cap is intended for line ends that are not expected to be reopened — dead-end branch stubs, system endpoints, pressure test terminations, and capped-off ports that will remain sealed for the life of the installation. For applications where future access to the terminated end is anticipated, the FPT cap is the more appropriate specification; for permanent terminations where simplicity, joint integrity, and maximum pressure rating are the governing factors, the slip cap is the correct choice.

The pressure rating advantage of the slip cap over the FPT equivalent is meaningful at 2-1/2" — the cemented socket joint carries a significantly higher pressure rating than a threaded connection of the same size, making the slip cap the preferred specification in high-pressure systems where the termination point is genuinely permanent and the threaded cap's removability offers no practical benefit. In systems where Schedule 80 is specified throughout for its pressure performance and chemical resistance, specifying the slip cap at permanent termination points maintains the pressure integrity of the surrounding assembly more completely than a threaded cap at the same location.

At 2-1/2", the 847-025 is sized for mid-size commercial and industrial pipe runs — a diameter commonly encountered on pump station branch lines, chemical distribution headers, water treatment plant branch piping, and irrigation sub-mains where clean, permanent, high-integrity end seals are required at system endpoints and dead-end stubs. Proper solvent cementing practice applies: apply primer to both the pipe end and the cap socket interior, follow immediately with cement on both surfaces, insert the pipe fully to socket depth, and hold firmly in alignment through the set period before allowing the joint to cure undisturbed.

Manufactured to Schedule 80 wall thickness standards, the 847-025 carries a higher pressure rating than a Schedule 40 cap of equivalent size and is the correct specification for systems where Schedule 80 fittings are required throughout. The dark gray rigid PVC compound resists a wide range of acids, bases, and industrial chemicals, making this cap a reliable long-term termination fitting in corrosive service environments where metal end caps would degrade or contaminate the process fluid.

Specifications:

Specification Detail
Part Number 847-025
Material PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
Schedule Schedule 80
Fitting Type Cap
Size 2-1/2"
Connection Type Slip (Socket)
Color Dark Gray
Pressure Rating ~220 PSI @ 73°F
Temperature Range Up to 140°F (60°C)
Standard ASTM D1784, ASTM D2467
End Use Pressure Systems

⚠️ Note: The slip cap is a permanent termination — once solvent cemented, the cap cannot be removed without cutting the pipe. If the termination point may need to be reopened in the future, specify the FPT cap (848-025) instead. Always use primer before cementing at 2-1/2" — do not skip the priming step on mid-to-large diameter slip joints. Consult manufacturer derating tables for elevated-temperature service.

Industries & Applications:

  • Water & Wastewater Treatment — Permanently terminates unused branch ports, dead-end stubs, and future-use connections on 2-1/2" treatment plant distribution headers and process piping where a cemented end seal provides higher pressure integrity than a threaded cap for long-term service
  • Chemical Processing — Closes off dead-end stubs and unused branch ports on 2-1/2" chemical feed and distribution lines where a permanent solvent-cemented termination is preferred for its chemical resistance, pressure integrity, and elimination of threaded joint leak risk at the line end
  • Industrial Plumbing — Caps open pipe ends on completed sections of phased construction projects, system pressure test assemblies, and permanent system endpoints on industrial facilities where the termination is designed to remain in place for the operational life of the installation
  • Pump Station & Equipment Connections — Permanently seals unused ports on 2-1/2" pump station manifolds, header assemblies, and branch stubs where the port will not be reopened and a cemented termination provides a cleaner, higher-pressure-rated seal than a threaded cap at the same location
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Systems — Terminates the end of a 2-1/2" distribution sub-main or branch lateral permanently at the furthest point of a zone or system endpoint, sealing the line for the operational life of the installation without a threaded joint that could loosen under seasonal pressure cycling
  • Municipal & Utility Infrastructure — Applied to dead-end stubs, future-use branch connections sealed for long-term service, and blow-off line endpoints on municipal water mains and pump station piping where permanent cemented termination is specified and the higher pressure rating of the slip cap over the FPT equivalent is a governing specification factor
