The 851-030 is a 3" Schedule 80 PVC Solid Style Flange with a Slip socket connection. Solid style flanges are one-piece, fixed-face fittings — the flange ring and socket body are permanently integrated into a single unit, providing a rigid, non-rotating connection point for bolting directly to pumps, valves, tank outlets, flow meters, strainers, and other flanged equipment or mating flange assemblies. The slip socket accepts standard 3" PVC pipe for solvent cementing on the pipe side, forming a permanent, pressure-rated bond that integrates the flange into the cemented pipe system. The flat flange face then presents a standard ANSI Class 150 bolt pattern for hardware connection to any compatible mating flange.

The solid style flange is a one-piece fixed assembly — this is its defining characteristic relative to the Van Stone loose ring flange (856-030FT, 854-030FT). Where the Van Stone design uses a two-piece rotating ring and stub end configuration that allows bolt hole alignment without rotating the pipe, the solid style flange is a single bonded unit in which the bolt holes are in a fixed position relative to the pipe socket. Once the slip socket is cemented to the pipe, the bolt hole orientation is permanently established and cannot be adjusted without cutting the pipe and re-cementing at a different rotational angle. For installations where bolt hole alignment can be set during the cement cure period — before the joint is fully hardened — the solid style flange is a clean, compact, reliable single-piece solution. For installations where post-cement bolt hole alignment is a practical requirement, the Van Stone flange is the appropriate alternative.

The solid style flange's single-piece construction is its primary advantage in terms of simplicity and assembly confidence. There is no backing ring to source, track, or position separately; no stub end-to-ring interface to manage; and no risk of the ring being omitted or incorrectly assembled during installation. The flange is solvent cemented to the pipe exactly as any other slip-socket fitting would be, and the result is a fully integrated, permanent flanged termination point ready for gasket and bolt assembly.

A full-face or ring gasket should be seated against the flat flange face before bolting, and bolts should be torqued evenly in a cross pattern to manufacturer specifications. At 3", PVC flange bolt torque is lower than equivalent metal flange assemblies — do not apply metal flange torque values to PVC flanges, and do not use impact tools for final torque. The flat face of the solid style flange is the sealing surface; uneven bolt loading or over-torquing will crack the flange face and require full replacement of the fitting and the cemented pipe section behind it.

At 3", the 851-030 is sized for mid-to-large commercial and industrial applications — pump stations, chemical processing lines, water treatment plant piping, and municipal utility infrastructure where 3" PVC is a primary pipe size and bolted flanged connections are required at equipment interfaces, valve stations, and system access points.
