This 2-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Male Adapter (MPT x Slip) provides a direct, reliable transition from a PVC pipe run to any standard female NPT-threaded fitting, valve, pump port, or equipment connection in commercial and light industrial piping systems. Constructed in white Schedule 40 PVC, it offers the corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility required across a wide range of fluid handling applications at large-diameter pipe sizes where metal fittings would degrade or add unnecessary weight and cost to the assembly.

The slip socket end accepts a 2-1/2" PVC pipe for a permanent solvent-cement bond, while the MPT exterior engages any standard FPT or FIP female-threaded connection using NPT tapered thread geometry. This MPT x Slip configuration is the standard approach for terminating a large-diameter PVC pipe run at a threaded valve, equipment inlet, or system component — eliminating the need for additional couplings or transition pieces in the assembly. At 2-1/2", this adapter is most commonly encountered in higher-flow distribution mains, pump discharge headers, and irrigation supply lines where larger pipe diameters are required to maintain adequate flow velocity and minimize pressure loss.

Rated to 160 psi at 73°F (governed by the 2-1/2" MPT threaded end), this adapter is suited for standard commercial and light industrial water distribution and irrigation service within its pressure class. Its PVC composition provides excellent resistance to corrosion, scale buildup, chlorinated water, and a broad range of chemical exposures, making it a reliable long-term alternative to metal adapters in moisture-prone or chemically active environments. NSF/ANSI 61 listing confirms suitability for potable water contact.

Apply solvent cement to both the pipe end and fitting socket per ASTM D2564 procedures, using a primer appropriate for the pipe and fitting schedule. Insert pipe fully into the socket and maintain a quarter-turn during assembly for even cement distribution across the joint surface. On the threaded end, use a quality pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape and avoid over-torquing — PVC threads require hand-tight plus one to two turns; excessive force can crack the fitting. Allow adequate cure time on the cemented joint before pressurizing the system, and derate pressure ratings for elevated temperatures per published derating curves.

Industries & Applications:

  • Irrigation & Water Distribution — Terminates 2-1/2" PVC mainline pipe runs at threaded control valves, zone headers, pump discharge flanges, and filter housings in agricultural and municipal irrigation systems where larger pipe diameters are required for high-flow supply
  • Industrial Process Piping — Transitions large-diameter PVC pipe to threaded pump inlets, valve bodies, instrumentation connections, and equipment ports in water treatment, chemical processing, and manufacturing facilities
  • Commercial Plumbing — Connects 2-1/2" Schedule 40 PVC distribution mains to threaded valves, pressure-reducing assemblies, and riser connections in commercial building water supply systems
  • Chemical Handling — Provides a corrosion-resistant pipe-to-thread transition in large-diameter systems conveying acids, caustics, fertilizer solutions, and other fluids incompatible with metal fittings at higher flow volumes
  • Water Treatment & Aquaculture — Used at pump discharge connections, filter inlet headers, and treatment equipment interfaces in recirculating and municipal water treatment systems where NSF/ANSI 61 compliance and larger pipe diameters are required
  • HVAC & Mechanical Systems — Connects 2-1/2" PVC pipe runs to threaded equipment ports on cooling tower supply headers, chilled water distribution mains, and chemically treated water systems within the Schedule 40 pressure rating class
