Plug, Spigot PVC Schedule 40 1-1/4" (449-012)

This 1-1/4" Schedule 40 PVC Spigot Plug provides a permanent, pressure-rated solvent-cement closure for any standard 1-1/4" socket fitting hub in commercial and light industrial piping systems, cementing directly into the hub of a tee branch outlet, cross port, coupling end, elbow outlet, or valve body socket to seal the port with a bond equal in strength to a standard pipe-to-fitting joint. Constructed in white Schedule 40 PVC, it offers the corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility required across a wide range of fluid handling applications where a 1-1/4" socket port must be permanently sealed without threading, capping over a pipe end, or introducing a pipe section before the closure point.

The spigot (male plain end) is sized to insert directly into the hub of any standard 1-1/4" socket-end fitting and is solvent-cemented in place to form a permanent, leak-free closure at the outer face of the hub — identical in installation method to cementing a standard pipe end into a socket, but terminating the port rather than continuing the pipe run. This closure method is the correct choice when a 1-1/4" socket fitting hub must be permanently sealed and no future access to the port is anticipated — as opposed to the MPT plug (450 series), which threads into a female-threaded port and can be removed and reinstalled for future access, or the FPT cap (448 series), which threads over a male pipe end and also offers removability. The spigot plug should not be confused with the slip cap (447 series), which sockets over a pipe end exterior rather than inserting into a fitting hub interior — the spigot plug installs into an existing socket hub without requiring a pipe section between the hub and the closure point, making it the most compact permanent closure available for any 1-1/4" socket fitting port. At 1-1/4", this plug is most commonly encountered permanently closing spare branch outlets on tees and crosses, sealing unused coupling ends, and terminating dead-end socket fitting ports in irrigation distribution assemblies, commercial plumbing branch supply systems, and light industrial process water assemblies where the sealed port will not be reopened and maintaining all-socket assembly integrity at the closure point is a design priority.

Rated to approximately 370 psi at 73°F, this plug is suited for standard commercial and light industrial water distribution and irrigation service within its pressure class. Its PVC composition provides excellent resistance to corrosion, scale, chlorinated water, and a broad range of chemical exposures. NSF/ANSI 61 listing confirms suitability for potable water contact.

Apply solvent cement to both the spigot exterior and the interior of the receiving socket hub per ASTM D2564 procedures, inserting fully and holding briefly for initial set. Because the spigot plug is a permanent closure, confirm the port is intended for permanent sealing before cementing — the joint cannot be disassembled after cure without cutting into the fitting body; if future access to the port is anticipated, the MPT plug (450 series) or FPT cap (448 series) provides a removable threaded alternative at the same port location if the fitting has a threaded port. Allow adequate cure time before pressurizing the system, and derate pressure ratings for elevated temperatures per published derating curves.
