The 475-211 is a Schedule 40 PVC reduced wye fitting with 1-1/2-inch slip (socket) connections on both run ends and a 1-inch slip (socket) outlet on the branch. All three ports accept PVC pipe via solvent cement — the 1-1/2" run sockets accept standard 1-1/2" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe, while the 1-inch branch socket accepts standard 1" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe. The reduced branch configuration allows the 1-1/2" main run to continue uninterrupted while feeding a smaller 1" branch line — a more pronounced size step-down than the 475-212 (1-1/2" x 1-1/4"), making the 475-211 the appropriate choice when the downstream branch must carry moderate rather than near-run-equivalent flow.

As with all fittings in the 475 series, the defining functional advantage over a standard tee is the 45° branch angle. Where a tee introduces branch flow at a sharp 90° perpendicular to the main run, the wye merges or diverts flow at a gradual 45° sweep — substantially reducing turbulence at the junction, lowering pressure drop through the fitting, and minimizing mechanical stress on the pipe run. This shallower branch geometry makes the wye the preferred fitting over a tee in drainage and gravity-flow applications where smooth flow transition is a code requirement or design priority, and also delivers meaningful hydraulic efficiency advantages in pressurized branch distribution systems where minimizing head loss at junction points supports overall system performance.

The 1" branch outlet also eliminates the need for a separate downstream reducing bushing or coupling at the branch takeoff — the fitting directly accepts 1" pipe, keeping the assembly compact and the joint count low. Rated for continuous cold-water pressure service and manufactured from rigid, high-impact PVC compound conforming to ASTM D2466, the 475-211 is dimensionally compatible with standard Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC pipe and fittings throughout. Apply a medium-bodied PVC primer and standard-bodied PVC cement per ASTM D2564 to all three socket ports and corresponding pipe ends before assembly; ensure full pipe insertion to the socket stop and maintain joint alignment during the cure set period at all three connections.

Industries & Applications:

  • Municipal & Commercial Plumbing — Joins a 1" branch line to a 1-1/2" supply or drainage main at a 45° angle in commercial plumbing systems where the shallower branch geometry reduces turbulence, supports smoother flow transitions, and is preferred over a tee at drainage and vent junctions requiring a smaller-bore branch takeoff.
  • Drainage & Waste Systems — The preferred fitting for reduced-branch connections in DWV and gravity-flow drainage systems where the 45° wye entry angle maintains flow velocity, reduces blockage risk at the junction, and the 1" branch accommodates secondary drain lines, vent connections, or fixture branches off a 1-1/2" horizontal drain main.
  • Water Treatment & Distribution — Used at branched distribution headers, secondary treatment feeds, and flow diversion points in Schedule 40 PVC systems where a 1-1/2" main must supply a 1" branch circuit with minimal pressure drop and flow disruption at the junction.
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Systems — Installed at mainline lateral junctions, zone supply branches, and drip distribution headers where a 1-1/2" cemented run must feed a 1" cemented branch line at a gradual angle to maintain system pressure and minimize head loss across the branching point.
  • Industrial Process Piping — Provides a low-turbulence reduced branch connection in 1-1/2" PVC process lines where a 1" secondary circuit, bypass line, or equipment feed must be taken off the main run without the flow disruption and pressure loss associated with a 90° tee branch.
  • Pool & Spa Plumbing — Used at circulation system branch points and equipment manifold junctions where a 1-1/2" run must supply a 1" secondary circuit or auxiliary equipment feed at a gradual angle to reduce resistance and support efficient pump performance in multi-branch systems.
