The 437-623 is a 10" x 3" Schedule 40 PVC reducer bushing with a slip spigot (male slip) on the 10" end and a slip socket on the 3" end. This single-piece fitting accomplishes a seven-inch nominal diameter reduction — one of the more dramatic step-downs in the large-diameter Schedule 40 bushing series — by inserting the 10" spigot directly into any compatible 10" slip socket fitting while the 3" socket accepts the downstream pipe or fitting, completing the full transition without an intermediate coupling, separate reducer, or additional components between fittings.

A 10" to 3" reduction of this magnitude is purposeful. On large-diameter distribution systems, irrigation mains, and industrial process headers, a 3" branch or outlet is typically serving a specific, defined function: a dedicated valve assembly handling meaningful but not full-main flow, a chemical injection or treatment port requiring a generously sized threaded or socket connection, a cleanout or drain lateral, or a controlled bypass circuit that must handle elevated flow rates without the pressure drop limitations of a smaller tap. The 3" outlet is large enough for full-port ball valves and gate valves, check valves, and 3" pipe runs — substantially more capable than a 1" or 2" instrument tap — while the bushing format keeps the transition as compact and low-joint-count as the installation allows.

The 10" spigot is machined to IPS outside diameter tolerances for a precise, solvent-weld fit in any 10" Schedule 40 slip socket. The 3" socket accepts standard IPS-dimension Schedule 40 PVC pipe or fittings bonded with standard PVC solvent cement; at the 10" spigot end, heavy-bodied cement is the recommended grade given the socket depth and coverage area involved. Manufactured from virgin PVC compound to ASTM D2466, the 437-623 carries the white color standard for Schedule 40 fittings and is NSF/ANSI 61 listed for potable water service.

Industries & Applications:

  • Municipal Water Distribution — Dedicated service lateral, blow-off assembly, and 3" branch valve connections off 10" distribution mains; the bushing format seats directly in an existing 10" tee or elbow socket, eliminating the need for a separate reducing coupling between the branch fitting and the 3" outlet assembly
  • Large-Scale Irrigation & Agriculture — Step-down transitions from 10" irrigation supply headers and pivot system primary feed lines to 3" zone valve stations, filter assemblies, and pressure regulator connections on large agricultural, golf course, and commercial landscape installations
  • Industrial Process Piping — Large-to-moderate diameter transitions on process water, cooling water, and plant utility fluid headers where a 3" valve, bypass loop, or equipment connection feeds off a 10" primary main with minimal fitting count
  • Pump Station & Equipment Connections — Suction or discharge side transitions where pump flanges, valve bodies, or equipment sockets require a 3" connection off a 10" header; spigot end integrates directly into existing 10" socket hardware without additional transition fittings
  • Water & Wastewater Treatment — Treatment plant distribution header step-downs where 10" primary mains transition to 3" chemical dosing lines, bypass circuits, sampling connections, or monitoring branch assemblies
  • Stormwater & Drainage Management — Gravity-flow conveyance transitions where a 10" collection or transmission main connects to a 3" cleanout lateral, secondary outlet, or drain branch; smooth PVC interior minimizes turbulence and head loss at the step-down point
  • Aquaculture & Recirculating Systems — Flow distribution step-downs from 10" supply headers to 3" zone circuits, aeration injection feed lines, and chemical treatment branch connections in large commercial aquaculture and water treatment facilities
  • Fire Suppression & Site Utility — Diameter transitions on commercial and campus-scale fire protection mains and site utility runs where 10" underground supply lines connect to 3" above-ground risers, hydrant leads, or equipment-side branch assemblies
  • Chemical Processing & Manufacturing — Corrosion-resistant large-to-moderate inline reductions on chemical distribution and process fluid headers where the bushing's single-piece construction reduces joint count and simplifies the assembly compared to a staged multi-fitting reduction
