The 437-628 is a 10" x 8" Schedule 40 PVC reducer bushing with a slip spigot (male slip) on the 10" end and a slip socket on the 8" end. This single-piece fitting accomplishes a two-inch nominal diameter reduction — the same modest step-down relationship as the 12"×10" bushing (437-670) one tier up in the series — by inserting the 10" spigot directly into any compatible 10" slip socket fitting while the 8" socket accepts the downstream pipe or fitting, completing the full transition without an intermediate coupling or additional components between fittings.

The 10" to 8" step-down is one of the most practical and frequently specified large-diameter reductions in commercial and municipal PVC piping. Both sizes carry high flow volumes in their own right, making this a transition fitting that appears at the boundary between a primary distribution main and a high-capacity secondary header — not a dramatic reduction in system capacity, but a deliberate, engineered transition to a slightly smaller diameter serving a defined zone, equipment circuit, or branch distribution run. The bushing format delivers this transition in the most compact form available: one fitting, one spigot-to-socket joint, and no intermediate coupling consuming additional laying length or introducing an extra solvent-weld joint into the assembly.

This compactness advantage is meaningful at large diameters. On a 10" system, every additional fitting and joint in an assembly adds cost, labor, and a potential leak point. A reducer bushing that integrates directly into an existing 10" tee, elbow, or coupling socket — eliminating the separate reducing coupling that a two-piece reduction would require — simplifies the assembly, reduces the overall component count, and keeps the system's joint inventory as low as possible. For contractors assembling large-diameter PVC systems at scale, these efficiencies add up across dozens of reduction points throughout a project.

Both ends use solvent-weld connections. The 10" spigot is machined to IPS outside diameter tolerances for a precise, interference-fit bond in any 10" Schedule 40 slip socket, and the 8" socket accepts standard IPS-dimension Schedule 40 PVC pipe or fittings bonded with heavy-bodied PVC solvent cement at both ends given the large-diameter socket dimensions involved. Manufactured from virgin PVC compound to ASTM D2466, the 437-628 carries the white color standard for Schedule 40 fittings and is NSF/ANSI 61 listed for potable water service.

Industries & Applications:

  • Municipal Water Distribution — Primary-to-secondary header transitions from 10" distribution mains to 8" zone headers and service laterals in tiered municipal water distribution architecture; the compact bushing format integrates directly into an existing 10" tee or elbow socket, minimizing assembly length and joint count at critical transition points throughout the distribution network
  • Large-Scale Irrigation & Agriculture — Step-down transitions from 10" irrigation supply mains and pivot system primary feed lines to 8" zone distribution headers and sector supply lines on large agricultural, golf course, and commercial landscape installations where hydraulic efficiency at each reduction point is a system design priority
  • Industrial Process Piping — Inline diameter reductions on 10" process water, cooling water, and plant utility fluid distribution headers transitioning to 8" equipment zone circuits, secondary distribution loops, or dedicated branch supply lines in manufacturing and heavy industrial facilities
  • Pump Station & Equipment Connections — Discharge or suction side diameter transitions where pump flange adapters, valve bodies, or equipment sockets are dimensioned for 8" pipe on a 10" system; spigot end integrates directly into existing 10" socket hardware without additional transition components
  • Stormwater & Drainage Management — Gravity-flow conveyance system transitions where a 10" collection or transmission main steps down to an 8" secondary conveyance run, detention system outlet, or outfall connection; smooth PVC interior minimizes turbulence and friction losses at the reduction point
  • Water & Wastewater Treatment — Distribution header step-down transitions in treatment plant piping and pump station discharge headers where 10" primary mains connect to 8" secondary distribution circuits, filter feed headers, or zone supply lines
  • Aquaculture & Recirculating Systems — High-volume flow distribution transitions from 10" supply headers to 8" primary zone circuits and return headers in large commercial aquaculture, hatchery, and industrial water treatment facilities
  • Fire Suppression & Site Utility — Diameter transitions on commercial, industrial, and campus-scale fire protection supply mains and site utility runs where 10" underground mains connect to 8" above-ground headers, building entry points, or equipment-side branch assemblies
  • Chemical Processing & Manufacturing — Corrosion-resistant inline reductions on large-diameter chemical distribution and process fluid headers where the bushing's single-piece construction reduces joint count and the two-inch nominal step-down keeps velocity and pressure loss at the transition within system design parameters
