The 437-670 is a 12" x 10" Schedule 40 PVC reducer bushing with a slip spigot (male slip) on the 12" end and a slip socket on the 10" end. Like all bushing-style reducers, the 437-670 accomplishes its diameter transition within a single compact fitting: the 12" spigot inserts directly into any compatible 12" slip socket — a tee, elbow, coupling, valve body, or equipment connection — while the 10" socket accepts the downstream pipe or fitting, eliminating the intermediate coupling that a standard reducing fitting assembly would otherwise require.

The 12" to 10" step-down is among the most common large-diameter reductions in commercial and municipal PVC piping systems. The two-inch nominal difference represents a relatively modest flow transition — 10" mains carry high volume in their own right — making this bushing a frequent specification in systems where a 12" trunk or supply header transitions to a 10" primary distribution branch, equipment inlet, or zone header. The compact, single-piece bushing format keeps the transition tight and the joint count low, both of which matter in large-bore assemblies where each additional fitting adds cost, installation labor, and a potential leak point.

Both ends use solvent-weld connections bonded with heavy-bodied PVC solvent cement — the correct grade at large diameters where socket depth, cement coverage area, and cure time are substantially greater than small-bore applications. The 12" spigot is machined to IPS outside diameter tolerances for a precise fit in any Schedule 40 slip socket, and the 10" socket accepts standard IPS-dimension Schedule 40 PVC pipe or fittings. Manufactured from virgin PVC compound to ASTM D2466, the 437-670 carries the white color standard for Schedule 40 fittings and is NSF/ANSI 61 listed for potable water service.

Industries & Applications:

  • Municipal Water Distribution — High-frequency specification for transitions from 12" trunk mains to 10" primary distribution headers and zone mains; the compact bushing format minimizes assembly length and fitting count at critical branching points in water distribution infrastructure
  • Large-Scale Irrigation & Agriculture — Step-down transitions from 12" irrigation supply mains to 10" zone headers and pivot system primary feed lines on large agricultural, golf course, and commercial landscape installations where hydraulic efficiency at the transition point is a design priority
  • Industrial Process Piping — Inline diameter reductions on process water, cooling water, and plant utility fluid headers where the modest 12"-to-10" step-down keeps velocity and pressure loss at the transition within acceptable system design parameters
  • Pump Station & Equipment Connections — Discharge or suction side transitions where pump flange adapters, valve bodies, or equipment sockets are dimensioned for 10" pipe on a 12" system; spigot end inserts directly into existing 12" socket hardware without additional transition fittings
  • Stormwater & Drainage Management — Gravity-flow conveyance system transitions where a 12" collection main steps down to a 10" outfall or secondary conveyance run; smooth PVC interior minimizes turbulence and friction losses at the reduction point
  • Water & Wastewater Treatment — Distribution header step-downs in treatment plant piping and pump station discharge headers where compact single-fitting reductions consolidate assemblies and reduce potential leak points on primary flow lines
  • Aquaculture & Recirculating Systems — High-volume recirculating system header transitions where 12" supply lines feed 10" primary distribution or return circuits in large commercial aquaculture and water treatment facilities
  • Fire Suppression & Site Utility — Diameter transitions on large commercial, industrial, and campus-scale fire protection supply mains and site utility water distribution systems where 12" underground mains connect to 10" above-ground or equipment-side headers
  • Chemical Processing & Manufacturing — Corrosion-resistant inline reductions on large-diameter chemical distribution and process fluid headers where the bushing's single-piece construction reduces joint count and simplifies assembly compared to multi-piece reducing fitting combinations
