The 402-289 is a Schedule 40 PVC reducing tee with 2-1/2-inch slip (socket) connections on both run ends and a 1-inch female pipe thread (FPT) outlet on the branch. The two 2-1/2" run-end sockets accept standard 2-1/2" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe via solvent cement, maintaining a permanent, pressure-rated inline run, while the 1" FPT branch receives a 1" male-threaded fitting, valve, pump port, union tail, or adapter downstream. The 1" branch size marks a meaningful transition within the 2-1/2" run sub-series of the 402 matrix — moving beyond the minimal-bore instrumentation and injection applications served by the 402-287 (1/2" branch) and 402-288 (3/4" branch) into moderate-flow territory where the threaded branch connection must carry real flow to a downstream valve body, equipment inlet, secondary circuit feed, or serviceable takeoff point.

Manufactured from rigid, high-impact PVC compound, the 402-289 conforms to ASTM D2466 dimensional standards and is rated for continuous cold-water pressure service. Apply a medium-bodied PVC primer and standard-bodied PVC cement per ASTM D2564 to both 2-1/2" run-end sockets; apply PTFE thread tape or an approved pipe thread sealant to any male-threaded fitting before engaging the 1" FPT branch. Do not overtighten the threaded connection, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque.
