Reducing Tee, Slip x Slip x FPT PVC Schedule 40 3" x 3" x 1/2" (402-333)

The 402-333 is a 3-inch Schedule 40 PVC reducing tee with slip (socket) connections on both run ends and a 1/2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) connection on the branch outlet. The extreme size differential between the 3-inch run and 1/2-inch branch is not a compromise — it is the design intent. This fitting exists specifically to provide a small-bore threaded access point on a large-diameter PVC mainline without branching any meaningful volume of flow: a pressure gauge tap, an air release valve port, a chemical injection point, a drain connection, a temperature sensor well, or a threaded sampling port that must coexist with a 3-inch main carrying full system flow straight through.

The 3" x 3" run passes mainline flow through the fitting body with no reduction and minimal pressure loss, while the 1/2-inch FPT branch delivers a precision threaded port sized to the industry-standard connection dimension for instrumentation, drain valves, and injection fittings. At 1/2-inch NPT, the branch accepts the widest range of standard threaded accessories available in PVC, brass, and stainless — pressure gauges, gauge isolators, needle valves, petcock drains, chemical injection quills, thermowell fittings, and air release valve bodies — without requiring a reducing bushing or adapter in the branch assembly.

This consolidated single-fitting design replaces what would otherwise require a full-size tee, a threaded reducing bushing, and potentially a nipple or adapter to arrive at a 1/2-inch threaded port — three fittings reduced to one, with fewer joints, a more compact installation footprint, and fewer potential leak points in the assembled system.

Both 3-inch run ends require heavy-bodied PVC solvent cement applied thoroughly and quickly to both the pipe end and socket bore. Pipe should be seated immediately with a quarter-turn rotation to distribute cement evenly, then held firmly for 30 seconds. Allow a full 24-hour cure before pressurizing the system. The 1/2-inch FPT branch accepts male NPT fittings assembled with PTFE thread tape or appropriate thread sealant — do not overtighten threaded connections into PVC female threads.

This fitting is manufactured from virgin PVC compound conforming to ASTM D1784 Cell Classification 12454 and dimensioned to ASTM D2466 standards for Schedule 40 PVC socket fittings.

Specifications:

Pressure rating is for water service at 73°F. Derate for elevated temperatures per manufacturer guidelines. Use heavy-bodied PVC solvent cement for 3-inch socket joints.
