The 402-334 is a 3-inch Schedule 40 PVC reducing tee with slip (socket) connections on both run ends and a 3/4-inch female pipe thread (FPT) connection on the branch outlet. The combination of large-diameter solvent weld run ends and a reduced threaded branch makes this a distinctly purposeful fitting — it is not a general-purpose tee but a fitting specifically engineered for applications where a 3-inch mainline requires a small-bore threaded takeoff for instrumentation, chemical injection, flow sampling, pressure monitoring, or service connections without interrupting the primary flow path.

The 3" x 3" run passes full mainline flow straight through the fitting, while the 3/4-inch FPT branch provides a ready-made threaded port accepting standard male NPT fittings, instruments, or valves directly. This eliminates the need for a separate full-size tee plus a threaded bushing or reducing fitting at the branch — consolidating what would otherwise be a two- or three-fitting assembly into a single fitting body with a cleaner, more compact result and fewer potential leak points in the system.

Both 3-inch run ends are bored to accept standard Schedule 40 PVC pipe for solvent weld assembly. At 3-inch diameter, heavy-bodied PVC solvent cement should be used, applied thoroughly and quickly to both the pipe end and socket bore. Pipe should be seated immediately with a quarter-turn rotation to distribute cement, then held firmly for 30 seconds. Allow a full 24-hour cure before pressurizing the system. The 3/4-inch FPT branch accepts male NPT fittings assembled with PTFE thread tape or appropriate thread sealant — do not overtighten threaded connections into PVC female threads.

This fitting is manufactured from virgin PVC compound conforming to ASTM D1784 Cell Classification 12454 and dimensioned to ASTM D2466 standards for Schedule 40 PVC socket fittings.

Specifications:

Pipe Compatibility Schedule 40 PVC Pipe, 3" (run ends)

Pressure rating is for water service at 73°F. Derate for elevated temperatures per manufacturer guidelines. Use heavy-bodied PVC solvent cement for 3-inch socket joints. Use PTFE thread tape or appropriate thread sealant on the 3/4" FPT branch — do not overtighten threaded connections into PVC female threads.

Industries & Applications:

The 402-334 reducing tee is specified wherever a 3-inch Schedule 40 PVC mainline requires a 3/4-inch threaded branch connection for instrumentation, injection, or service access without a full-size branch run:

  • Chemical Processing & Water Treatment — Chemical injection points on 3-inch treatment plant headers and process mains where a 3/4-inch threaded port provides a direct connection for chemical dosing quills, injection fittings, and metering pump discharge lines without full-bore branch piping
  • Pressure & Flow Instrumentation Takeoffs — Threaded ports for pressure gauges, pressure transducers, flow meters, and sample valves on 3-inch process and utility mains where instrument connections must be threaded and of a smaller nominal size than the mainline
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Distribution — Threaded branch connections on 3-inch irrigation headers for fertigation injectors, chemical treatment ports, pressure gauge taps, and manual drain valves on large-scale field distribution systems
  • Municipal & Commercial Plumbing — Service taps and instrument connections on 3-inch utility water mains and mechanical room headers where threaded small-bore branch ports are required for gauges, air release valves, or domestic service connections
  • Industrial Process Piping — Sampling ports and chemical injection tees on 3-inch reagent distribution and recirculation headers where a reduced threaded branch eliminates multi-fitting assemblies and reduces potential leak points
  • Swimming Pool & Aquatic Facility Plumbing — Chemical feeder and treatment equipment connections on 3-inch pool recirculation mains where a threaded 3/4-inch branch accommodates inline chemical dosing equipment, bypass lines, or pressure monitoring ports
  • HVAC & Cooling Systems — Chemical treatment injection and instrumentation takeoffs on 3-inch condenser water and cooling tower supply headers where corrosion-resistant threaded branch connections serve treatment and monitoring equipment
