The 401-289 is a 2-1/2" × 2-1/2" × 1" PVC Schedule 40 Reducing Tee with three slip (socket) ends — a full-size 2-1/2" through-run and a reduced 1" branch outlet. All three connections are made with solvent cement, producing a rigid, leak-free assembly suited for commercial plumbing, irrigation distribution, and process piping systems where a larger supply main must feed a moderately smaller branch without the added joint count of a separate reducer fitting or bushing at the branch point.

Manufactured from white PVC Schedule 40 compound, this tee complies with ASTM D2466 and carries NSF/ANSI 61 certification for potable water contact. The integral 1" reducing branch consolidates what would otherwise require a full-bore tee plus a reducing bushing into a single solvent-welded fitting — reducing part count, installation time, and the number of joint surfaces in the finished assembly.

The 2-1/2" × 1" run-to-branch ratio is a practical geometry for zoned commercial distribution systems: a large-diameter main carries volume flow across a long run while 1" branch taps supply individual equipment connections, zone valve stations, or fixture groups with adequate flow capacity for moderate downstream demand.
