The 439-292 is a Schedule 40 PVC threaded reducer bushing with a 2-1/2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) on the larger end and a 2-inch female pipe thread (FPT) on the smaller end. The MPT end threads directly into any 2-1/2" female-threaded port — a pipe coupling, tee branch, valve body, pump port, or equipment connection — while the FPT bore accepts a 2" male-threaded fitting, pipe nipple, valve, or adapter downstream. The hex body provides flat wrench surfaces for controlled installation torque, allowing the bushing to be tightened securely without the risk of rounding or cracking that can result from plier or strap wrench application on smooth fittings.

The all-threaded MPT x FPT configuration makes the 439-292 the correct bushing choice when both the upstream port and the downstream connection are threaded — as opposed to the 438 series (Spigot x FPT), where the inlet is a solvent cement spigot, or the 437 series (Spigot x Socket), where both connections are solvent cement. This fitting is particularly well suited to threaded valve bodies, pump ports, filter housings, and equipment manifolds where a size reduction within a fully threaded system is required and no cemented joints are involved. The all-threaded design also means the bushing can be removed and replaced independently without disturbing surrounding cemented piping — a meaningful serviceability advantage in systems where fitting sizes may need to change as equipment is upgraded or replaced.

Apply PTFE thread tape or an approved pipe thread sealant to the 2-1/2" MPT end before threading into the receiving FPT port. For the 2" FPT bore, apply sealant to the male-threaded fitting being installed into it. Do not overtighten either end, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque — hand-tight plus one to two turns with a wrench is the standard assembly practice for PVC threaded fittings.

Industries & Applications:

  • Municipal & Commercial Plumbing — Reduces a 2-1/2" female-threaded port to accept a 2" male-threaded connection at valve bodies, pump flanges, meter connections, and equipment tie-ins in commercial threaded PVC plumbing systems where no solvent cement joints are involved in the reduction.
  • Water Treatment & Distribution — Used at filter housing inlets, pump discharge ports, and treatment equipment connections where a 2-1/2" threaded female port must be reduced to a 2" male-threaded interface for equipment compatibility within a fully threaded Schedule 40 PVC system.
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Systems — Installed at pump stations, filter manifolds, and control valve assemblies where a 2-1/2" threaded female port on existing equipment must accept a 2" male-threaded pipe nipple, valve, or adapter for system layout or equipment replacement purposes.
  • Industrial Process Piping — Reduces a 2-1/2" FPT port to a 2" threaded connection in corrosion-resistant PVC process systems handling chemical solutions, aggressive fluids, or industrial media where all-threaded construction is specified for disassembly and serviceability.
  • Pool & Spa Equipment Rooms — Used at pump inlets, filter port connections, and equipment manifold tie-ins where 2-1/2" threaded female ports must be reduced to 2" threaded connections for compatibility with smaller-bore valves, unions, or pipe runs in circulation and chemical feed systems.
  • HVAC & Chilled Water Systems — Provides an all-threaded size reduction from 2-1/2" to 2" at equipment ports, drain connections, and secondary piping tie-ins in commercial mechanical systems where a fully threaded PVC assembly is specified and solvent cement joints at the transition are not desired.
