Union (O-Ring Type), FPT x FPT PVC Schedule 40 2" (498-020)

The 498-020 is a 2" PVC Schedule 40 union in an FPT x FPT (female pipe thread x female pipe thread) configuration, sealed with an O-ring between the two union halves. Both ends accept male-threaded pipe or fittings, allowing the union to be integrated into an all-threaded assembly or used as a disconnectable bridge between two male-threaded components — without requiring any solvent welding at the union itself.

The FPT x FPT configuration sets this union apart from the more common slip x slip design. It is the right choice when the surrounding piping system is assembled with threaded joints rather than solvent-weld connections, or when the union needs to be installed at a point where threading onto existing male-threaded pipe ends is more practical than cutting in a solvent-weld fitting. This also makes it a natural fit at equipment connections where both the union body and the equipment port are female-threaded, with a short male-threaded nipple bridging the two.

The O-ring seal provides a positive, compressive seal between the two union halves that holds reliably through pressure cycling, minor misalignment, and repeated disassembly — outperforming flat-face union designs in applications subject to vibration or frequent maintenance access. The union nut draws both halves together to compress the O-ring and can be loosened for full separation without disturbing the threaded pipe connections on either side.
