Union (O-Ring Type), Slip x FPT PVC Schedule 80 2" (899-020)

The 2" PVC Schedule 80 O-Ring Union (Part No. 899-020) is a pressure-rated, gray-body fitting designed to create a fully demountable, hand-tightenable disconnect point in a Schedule 80 PVC piping system. The slip x FPT (female pipe thread) configuration combines a solvent-cement socket inlet on one side with a female pipe thread outlet on the other, allowing this union to bridge a solvent-cemented pipe run on one end and a threaded pipe or fitting connection on the other — a practical combination wherever a system transitions between cemented and threaded PVC or where a threaded equipment connection must remain serviceable.

The o-ring sealing mechanism distinguishes this union from a solvent-weld or flat-face union. Rather than relying on a flat gasket or direct solvent contact for the union joint seal, the o-ring type uses a captured elastomeric ring that compresses between the union body and the nut as the coupling nut is tightened. This produces a positive, reliable seal that maintains integrity through repeated assembly and disassembly cycles — making o-ring unions the preferred specification in applications where the disconnect point will be operated frequently, such as equipment service access, filter and strainer maintenance, pump isolation, and chemical dosing system servicing.

The three-piece union construction — body, tail piece, and coupling nut — allows the line to be broken and re-made without disturbing the cemented or threaded pipe connections on either side. The coupling nut can be hand-tightened in most applications, eliminating the need for pipe wrenches at the union joint and reducing the risk of over-torquing the PVC body.
