The 897-012 is a 1-1/4" PVC Schedule 80 union in a slip x slip (socket x socket) configuration, sealed with an O-ring rather than a flat-face solvent-weld seat. Both socket ends accept 1-1/4" plain-end pipe for solvent welding, while the union nut allows the two halves to be separated and reconnected at any time without cutting the pipe — making this fitting the standard solution wherever future access, equipment removal, or system servicing is a requirement.

The O-ring seal design is the defining feature of the 897-series. Rather than relying on a machined face-to-face contact seal, the O-ring creates a positive, compressive seal between the two union halves that accommodates minor misalignment, resists leakage under pressure cycling, and maintains its seal integrity over repeated assembly and disassembly cycles. This makes the O-ring union meaningfully more reliable in demanding service conditions than flat-face union designs — particularly in systems subject to vibration, thermal expansion, or frequent maintenance activity.

Built to Schedule 80 wall thickness standards from rigid PVC compound, the 897-012 carries the elevated pressure ratings required for industrial and commercial pressure service. The union nut threads down securely over both halves to draw the joint together and compress the O-ring, and can be backed off by hand or with a strap wrench for disassembly without tools on the pipe itself.

Like all Schedule 80 PVC fittings, the 897-012 is fully resistant to corrosion, chemical attack, and biological fouling — providing the disconnectable access point that metal unions offer, without the rust, galvanic corrosion, or seized-thread problems that accompany metal hardware in wet or chemical service.
