The o-ring sealing mechanism sets this union apart from flat-face union designs. A captured elastomeric o-ring compresses between the union body and coupling nut as the nut is tightened, creating a positive, pressure-rated seal that maintains integrity through repeated assembly and disassembly cycles. This makes o-ring unions the preferred specification wherever the disconnect point will be operated regularly — pump and equipment isolation, filter and strainer servicing, chemical dosing system maintenance, and any location where a clean, tool-free line break is a routine operational requirement.

The three-piece construction — body, tail piece, and coupling nut — allows the line to be broken and re-made without disturbing the solvent-cemented pipe connections on either side.
