Our 829-040 is a 4" Schedule 80 PVC coupling with Slip x Slip connections. This fitting joins two 4" PVC pipe ends inline, with one pipe end inserted and solvent-welded into each socket using primer and PVC solvent cement. Once cured, the coupling forms a permanent, pressure-rated joint within the pipe system.

It doesn’t change pipe size, direction, or flow path; instead, it provides a straight, inline connection for two sections of 4" PVC pipe. Slip couplings are one of the most common pipe fittings used in PVC pressure systems, as they can lengthen a pipe run, connect two prefabricated pipe spools, replace a damaged pipe section, or add length where a pipe run comes up short.

At four inches, 829-040 is intended for larger commercial and industrial piping systems, such as pump station suction and discharge lines, water treatment distribution headers, large irrigation supply lines, industrial process piping, and municipal water infrastructure. Both slip sockets accept standard 4" Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC pipe for solvent cementing.

Proper pipe installation is especially important at this size. Follow a two-step primer and PVC solvent cement process, covering the full socket interior and pipe end surface on both sides. Insert the pipe to full socket depth and hold it firmly in alignment through the initial set period. Don’t rotate the joint after insertion, as movement after seating can weaken the solvent bond before it cures. Be sure to confirm solvent cement manufacturer cure times before pressurizing the system.

For 4" couplings, a two-person installation is recommended. One person can apply the cement and seat the pipe, while the other person holds alignment and insertion pressure through the set time.

Additionally, this coupling is trusted for repair and maintenance work. When a damaged section of 4" PVC pressure main must be removed, two couplings can reconnect the replacement pipe spool at each cut end. That makes it a practical pipe fitting to keep in stock for contractors, maintenance teams, and facilities facing tight repair timelines.

Manufactured to Schedule 80 wall thickness standards, this dark gray PVC coupling provides a higher pressure rating than Schedule 40 fittings of the same size. SCH 80 PVC fittings are suitable for chemical processing, industrial process piping, high-pressure distribution lines, and corrosive-service environments where PVC materials are preferred over metal.

Specifications:

Specification Detail
Part Number 829-040
Material PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
Schedule Schedule 80
Fitting Type Coupling
Size 4"
Connection Type Slip x Slip (Socket — both ends)
Color Dark Gray
Pressure Rating ~130 PSI @ 73°F
Temperature Range Up to 140°F (60°C)

End Use Pressure Systems

⚠️ Important: Apply primer to both sockets and both pipe ends before the cement. Don’t skip the priming step at 4" diameter, and don’t rotate the joint after insertion. After being cemented, neither end can be disassembled without cutting pipe. Consult manufacturer derating tables for elevated-temperature service.

Industries & Applications:

  • Water & Wastewater Treatment: Connects sections of 4" Schedule 80 PVC pipe on treatment plant distribution headers, process piping mains, pump station connections, and filter assembly piping where permanent inline joints are needed.
  • Chemical Processing: Used in 4" chemical distribution and process piping systems to join pipe sections, extend runs, and reconnect pipe after maintenance or modification.
  • Industrial Process Piping: Joins 4" pipe sections inline on process water, cooling water, and chemical distribution mains in manufacturing plants and skid assemblies.
  • Pump Station & Equipment Connections: Used on 4" pump discharge and suction mains to bring pipe sections together, extend runs to equipment connection points, and reconnect pipe spools after pump service.
  • Irrigation & Agricultural Systems: Connects 4" PVC supply main sections on agricultural, golf course, and commercial irrigation systems where long mainline runs demand durable pipe connections.
  • Municipal & Utility Infrastructure: Applied to 4" municipal water distribution mains, pump station headers, and utility service piping for pipe joining, repair work, and prefabricated spool connections.
