This 2" PVC Insert Adapter provides a permanent transition between 2" flexible polyethylene pipe or flexible irrigation tubing and a rigid 2" solvent-cemented PVC pipe system in a single fitting. The barbed insert end slides into the interior bore of 2" flexible poly pipe or irrigation tubing and is secured with hose clamps or compression fittings on the flexible tubing side, while the 2" slip socket end accepts standard 2" rigid PVC pipe for solvent cement joining on the rigid system side. The result is a direct, mechanical connection between the flexible poly pipe world and the rigid solvent-welded PVC world at the same fitting body, without intermediate nipples, couplings, or additional adapter fittings at the transition point.

The insert adapter occupies a unique position in PVC fitting systems that no other fitting type in this catalog serves. All previously cataloged fittings — whether socket, spigot, threaded, or flanged — interface exclusively with rigid PVC pipe or threaded metal/PVC components. The insert adapter introduces an entirely different connection method at the insert end: the barbed male end, sized to the interior diameter of the mating flexible tubing, is pushed into the tubing bore and held by the tubing wall's elasticity against the raised barbs, supplemented by hose clamps to provide the mechanical retention needed for pressure service. This barb-and-clamp connection is the standard method for joining rigid components to flexible poly pipe throughout residential, commercial, and agricultural irrigation systems.

At 2", the insert adapter serves a large-bore transition size common at primary irrigation mainlines, pump station outlet connections, and primary zone header assemblies where 2" poly pipe is a standard flexible pipe size for mainline distribution. For installation at the insert end, ensure the flexible poly tubing cut end is clean, square, and free of burrs. Lubricate the barbed insert end with a compatible pipe lubricant or dish soap — do not use petroleum-based lubricants on PVC or PE pipe. Push the insert end firmly into the tubing bore until the tubing seats fully against the fitting shoulder. Install two stainless steel hose clamps on the tubing over the barbed insert area, positioned per the fitting manufacturer's installation instructions, and tighten to the specified torque — over-tightening can cut the tubing wall while under-tightening produces insufficient retention force for pressure service. For the slip socket end, apply purple PVC primer and medium-body Schedule 40 PVC solvent cement to both the pipe end and socket interior following standard procedure; insert the pipe with a slight quarter-turn twist and hold for 30 seconds. Allow full cure time before pressurizing the assembly.
