- Dry-fit the PVC side and mark socket depth. Apply the primer and PVC cement as directed, seat the pipe fully, and allow the joint to cure.
- Push the PEX over the adapter barb until it reaches the fitting shoulder.
- Position and compress the ring with the correct PEX crimping tool. Check it with the required gauge.
- Cut the PEX to length before assembly; don’t trim it after crimping.
Method B: Use SharkBite Fittings
- Select a listed SharkBite PVC transition coupling in the needed sizes.
- Cut both pipes square, remove burrs, and mark specified insertion depths.
- Push the PEX into the CTS end until it reaches the stop.
- Push the PVC into the PVC-marked end; don’t reverse the ends.
- Pressure-test with water; never test PVC piping with compressed air or gas.
This is often the simplest method, since the transition itself doesn’t need glue, crimping, or special installation tools.
Method C: Threaded, Compression, or Clamp Transitions
For threaded transitions, solvent-weld a female PVC adapter to the pipe and add a PEX adapter with male threads. Apply the approved thread sealant and begin by hand, avoiding overtightening.
Compression fittings need to be listed for both materials and tightened as directed. Clamp-style fittings feature a stainless-steel clamp and matching tool.
